Michiel Jannink, Business manager Life Sciences and Health at Demcon Advanced Mechatronics
Michiel Jannink was the manager of the research cluster “Restoration of Human Function”. Scope of the cluster: The cluster is closely related to one the main themes of the Biomedical Technological Institute of the University of Twente, i.e. biomechatronics and human motor control. The main goal of the cluster is the restoration of lost motor function in people with physical disabilities, mainly due to neurological disorders and amputations. Our main focus is on treatment of movement disorders in people with stroke and spinal cord injury. Both, impaired upper extremity and lower extremity function is addressed. Biomechatronics research themes can be sub-divided into technology that is used to train the impaired subject (e.g. robot training , virtual reality and electrical stimulation therapy), to modify neuro-physiological processes to reinforce lost-function (e.g. neuromodulation, neurophysiology, biomechanics), and technology that is used to actually restore function using aids (prostheses and neural prostheses). The scope of the cluster is to perform basic research in these three directions, to participate in actual developments for clinical use, and to implement and transfer these technologies to the clinical setting.
At Demcon Advanced Mechatronics Michiel Jannink works as a business manager within the Business Life Sciences and Health. Within this BU mechatronic solutions for customers in the field of medical devices are developed, engineered and realized. DEMCON is also very active in the fiels of minimal invasieve (robotic) surgery, image guided interventions and therapy, non-invasive continuous blood pressure measurement systems.
Remke Burie, Universiteit Twente
“Op 9 november jongstleden heeft de officiële lancering van het Centre for Medical Imaging – North Eastern Netherlands (CMINEN) plaatsgevonden. Het CMINEN is een samenwerking tussen de Universiteit Twente, het Universitair Medisch Centrum Groningen, SIEMENS, het St Radboud Universitair Medisch Centrum, diverse regionale ziekenhuizen en enkele tientallen regionale bedrijven. Het CMINEN richt zich primair op de ontwikkeling en toepassing van medische beeldvorming, zowel ten behoeve van diagnostiek als interventies. Naast het uitvoeren van baanbrekend onderzoek en het verbeteren van de daadwerkelijke zorg voor de patiënt, wordt binnen het CMINEN veel aandacht geschonken aan de valorisatie van kennis en het creëren van nieuwe bedrijvigheid. In dit kader zal met ondersteuning van de provincie Overijssel op korte termijn al een regionaal innovatiecluster worden opgezet rondom de zeer geavanceerde imaging faciliteiten die op de campus van de Universiteit Twente worden gecreëerd. “
Remke Burie heeft Werktuigbouwkunde gestudeerd aan de Universiteit Twente en een Part-time MBA opleiding gevolgd bij Tias Nimbas in Tilburg.
Vanaf 2004 is hij betrokken bij de ontwikkeling van de opleiding Technische Geneeskunde (TG) en het aanverwante onderzoeksprogramma binnen MIRA bij de Universiteit Twente. In de eerste jaren heeft hij een belangrijke bijdrage geleverd aan de ontwikkeling van de Masteropleiding, het opzetten van de algehele organisatie en het met succes binnenhalen van diverse grote onderzoeksprojecten.
In de jaren daarna heeft hij zich primair gericht op de verdere ontwikkeling van het Experimental Centre for Technical Medicine (ECTM) en het initiëren van nieuwe onderzoekssamenwerkingen.
Momenteel is hij afdelingshoofd van het ECTM, dat is uitgegroeid tot een geavanceerde faciliteit voor onderwijs en onderzoek. Het onderwijsprogramma richt zich inmiddels op de opleidingen Technische Geneeskunde, Biomedische Technologie, Psychologie en in toenemende mate op post- academisch onderwijs voor diverse medische disciplines.
Daarnaast is hij betrokken als projectmanager bij het Centre for Medical Imaging (CMI), waar hij onder meer verantwoordelijk is voor het opzetten van het hieraan gekoppelde innovatiecluster en het initiëren van diverse nieuwe R&D projecten.
